i’ve been a big fan of Launchy for quite a while. In fact, it’s probably one of my most used tools, especially at work. However a while ago, after installing Firefox 3, I started noticing that new bookmarks I added didn’t seem to show up. I didn’t think about it too much, until I tried to add a new bookmark for a Firefox quick search (my all-time favorite use of Launchy) and found that Launchy just wouldn’t pick it up. A little digging revealed the cause: Launchy was indexing the bookmarks from bookmarks.html in the Firefox profile directory, but in Firefox 3 the bookmarks are now stored in an SQLite database (places.sqlite in the profile directory) which Launchy is oblivious to. Fortunately, Firefox 3 provides an about:config option to also add bookmarks to the bookmarks.html location as well, which works nicely to get Launchy back on track. This works as a decent workaround until Launchy supports the new bookmark storage method.
